J.J. Osbun[1] or James Osbun, born in Philadelphia, United States, is an entertainment industry professional based in Los Angeles. He is mainly notable for his documentary films on China-related issues[2] including Diaoyu Islands - The Truth,[3] Tibet: The Truth, and Unit 731. Some of his films have won awards in Chinese American Film Festivals.[4][5] He is currently the Vice President of Monarex Hollywood Corporation, a production company in Los Angeles.[6]

Early life and background[edit]

Born as Jeffrey James Haddad Osbun in Philadelphia, PA to James P. Osbun and Rosemary T. Haddad. He grew up in Cincinnati, attending Archbishop Moeller High School before studying at DePauw University and Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. He graduated with a BS in Business Management. After college he worked on an independent feature. Shortly after he moved to Los Angeles and began working in reality television.

Career[edit]

In 2006 Osbun worked on a small film in Louisville, KY, entitled My True Self. In Los Angeles he was offered a short "gig" on America's Next Top Model. He managed to work throughout that season's production despite limited prior experience. He then continued working in reality television on American Idol, Season 6.

At that time, Osbun met with filmmaker Chris D. Nebe in 2006 and began working on a series called Mysterious China in small capacities. In 2010, Nebe offered Osbun a producing role for a documentary film Dali: Love at First Sight in Dali City, Yunnan. Between 2011 and 2015, the Mysterious China series has been Osbun's main focus, completing eight films. He continued his major filmmaking role for the series on China after his production company signing a deal with HanHai Studio of China in May 2015.[7][8]
