JD Beck is an American drummer. He is one half of the jazz duo DOMi & JD Beck.[1][2]
Biography[edit]
Beck was born on May 3, 2003.[3] He is from Dallas, Texas. He started playing gigs on drums at age 10, including some with Erykah Badu's band, as well as the bassist MonoNeo.[4] At age 14, Beck was mentored by Robert "Sput" Searight (who played with Snarky Puppy and Ghost-Note).[5]
Beck met keyboardist DOMi at the 2018 NAMM show, where they were both invited to play by Sput.[6][4][7] After this, Beck and DOMi played together at Erykah Badu's birthday party.[4] They formed a duo and began performing together regularly. The two regularly post their music on YouTube, such as their popular tribute to Madvillainy (by MF Doom and Madlib).[8] The duo began regularly playing and working with Anderson .Paak, Thundercat, and Flying Lotus.[9] Beck and DOMi have also worked with several other prominent jazz, hip-hop, and pop musicians, such as Louis Cole, Ariana Grande, and The Roots.[4][10][11]. They've since released their first single "SMiLE" off their full-length debut, a joint release from Blue Note Records and APES*** INC.[12]
