Jacob Thankachen (born April 28, 1980) is an Indian track and field athlete known for his achievements in ultra-marathons and triathlons. He gained prominence for his unique 70 km solo run up Jebel Jais, one of the tallest mountain ranges in the United Arab Emirates.

Early life and education[edit]

Thankachen was born in the Kollam district of Kerala, India, to Mr. Thankachan Chacko, a former soldier in the Indian Military, and Mrs. Thankamma. He completed his schooling at SRV HS and Govt HS Panampilly Nagar and pursued higher education, earning degrees in MCA, MDiv, and MTh from various institutions.[1]

Athletic career[edit]

Thankachen has participated in numerous marathons, cycling events, and swimming races since 2006. Notable among his achievements is his 70 km run up Jebel Jais[2][3], which he completed in approximately 6 hours at the age of 40. This feat garnered widespread attention and admiration for his dedication and perseverance.[4]

In addition to his ultra-marathon endeavors, Thankachen has competed in triathlons, including the 'half-ironman' triathlon, which consists of swimming, cycling, and running segments. [5][6]He also completed the 'Ironman' triathlon in Dubai, showcasing his versatility and endurance as an athlete.[7] [8]

Social initiatives[edit]

Apart from his athletic pursuits, Thankachen is involved in social initiatives, particularly in promoting traditional medicinal practices. He owns a mudhouse[9] in Kerala constructed using over 100 medicinal herbs, aiming to create a space that blends natural remedies with modern living. He has also established a medicinal garden surrounding the house to further this endeavor.[10]

Entrepreneurship[edit]

Thankachen is the founder of "Aistihdaf,"[11] an IT firm based in Dubai. Through his company, he aims to integrate modern technology with traditional business values to provide comprehensive digital solutions to businesses of all sizes. Additionally, he is an active investor in the IT sector, demonstrating his commitment to innovation and growth in the industry.
