Jagpreet Singh is an Indian educationist and the current headmaster of The Doon School, an all-boys boarding school in Dehradun, India.[1][2] He succeeded Matthew Raggett in 2020, becoming the eleventh headmaster of the school. He is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, UK and treasurer of the Indian Public Schools' Conference.[3][4]
Early life[edit]
Singh was born in Ajmer, and educated at St. Anselm's Senior Secondary School, Ajmer. He received a B.Ed. from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, and M.A. in history and MPhil in education from University of Rajasthan.[1]
Career[edit]
Singh joined Mayo College, Ajmer as a housemaster in 1989, and later became the school's vice principal. He left Mayo in April 2011 to become headmaster of Punjab Public School (PPS) in Nabha, Punjab.[5][6] At PPS, Singh laid emphasis on the importance of arts education and sports in addition to academic goals.[7][8][9] Singh became one of the four country-wide awardees in 2013 to win the Derozio Award, given by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for major contributions in the field of education.[10] In 2019, Singh was a member of the education summit organised by the Government of Punjab in Chandigarh, to discuss education goals for the city.[11][12] In April 2020, Singh was appointed the eleventh headmaster of The Doon School in Dehradun, after Matthew Raggett resigned in January 2020.
