"Jaise Mera Tu" (English: As You are mine) is a Hindi song from the 2014 Bollywood film Happy Ending.[1] Composed by Sachin–Jigar, the song is sung by Arijit Singh and Priya Saraiya, with lyrics by the latter.[2] The music video of the track features actors Saif Ali Khan and Ileana D'Cruz.[3][4]

Background[edit]

"Jaise Mera Tu" is composed by Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya. It is performed by Arijit Singh and Priya Saraiya. "Jaise Mera Tu" marks the first collaboration between Sachin–Jigar and Singh, followed by "Judaai"—duet with Rekha Bhardwaj— from Badlapur (2015).[5][6] Apart from giving the female vocals, Priya Saraiya wrote the lyrics of "Jaise Mera Tu" and co-wrote the lyrics of "Judaai" with Dinesh Vijan.

The music video features Saif Ali Khan and Ileana D'Cruz, making their first appearance opposite each other with the film.[7] Accordig to Business Recorder, "Jaise Mera Tu" shows, both Khan and D'Cruz romancing each other in "lush green gardens" and "driving in high-end cars"; "From playing strip poker to preparing breakfast for his lady-love, Khan is seen in a fresh new light".[8] "Jaise Mera Tu" was shot across several locations of San Francisco including the Golden Gate.[9]

Release and response[edit]

"Jaise Mera Tu" was digitally released on the iTunes Store on 22 October 2014 as part of the soundtrack album of the film.[10] The music video of the song was officially released on 29 October 2014, through the YouTube channel of Eros Now.[11] The music album was released on the same day in Mumbai. During the event Priya Saraiya—who provided female vocals of the song and wrote the lyrics of it—rendered the song, accompanied by the music director duo Sachin–Jigar.[12]

Critical reception[edit]

"Jaise Mera Tu" received mixed to positive response from music critics.

Rajiv Vijayakar from Bollywood Hungama expressing that "Sachin-Jigar keep the song gentle with a lot of soft guitars, with Arijit's higher-octave rendition strangely highlighting the soul of the song", mentioned that the interlude music should have been far better, considering the "flow of the composition and the singing".[13] Joginder Tuteja writing from Rediff.com was satisfied with the work performed by Priya Saraiya, in writing the song and bringing in thehrav for "Jaise Mera Tu".[14] Though Surabhi Redkar from Koimoi felt thatt here is nothing exceptional in "Jaise Mera Tu", it has the quality to grow on the listeners; "[It] has light music and even though it is slow, the romantic track has an instant likability quotient to it".[15]

Apart from stating that the song has repeating value through it, Kasmin Fernandes from The Times of India declared that both Singh and Saraiya are in their "usual fine form".[16] According to Sankhayan Ghosh from The Indian Express, "Jaise Mera Tu" suffered from having familiarity with other songs from the composer duo.[17] However, Kanika Rajani from the same publication reacted positively to the song writing; "What sets this number apart from other numbers by Singh is the tenor and the pitch at which he's singing. Priya Saraiya's sweet voice also further enhances this number".[18]
