He is best known as the lead singer and co-creator of the pop duo Zedned, which he formed with his friend Molly in 2019. Initially gaining popularity through TikTok, he amassed a large following after a viral video about abandoned childhood TV sets. His comedic style blends genres like pop, R&B, and house, often producing humorous and light-hearted music.
Career[edit]
2019–2021: TikTok and creation of Zedned[edit]
In 2019, Jake Muscles and duo partner Molly began writing and composing songs. The duo initially treated Zedned as a parody project, experimenting with music styles and lyrics to create humor-infused tracks. By 2021, Zedned debuted on SoundCloud with their first single, "Fuck It, I Love You," marking their entry into the music scene. Although initially an indie project, the duo quickly garnered attention for their quirky style and humour.
2022-present: Musical journey and commercial success[edit]
2022 onwards, Zedned's career saw significant growth, particularly after their debut on major music platforms. The release of their single "Sex/Monopoly" on April 8, 2022, marked their official entry into the mainstream. This single became part of their fourth album Street Days, which showcased the duo's unique blend of pop, house, R&B, and comedy. Their humorous lyrics and lighthearted approach resonated with a younger audience, particularly on TikTok, where Jake Muscles' viral content helped expand their reach. It wasn't until May 1, 2022 that the duo would release their debut album Moist Muff, the album was received poorly with all the tracks being released simultaneously with no promotional singles supporting the release of the album. The duo released eleven albums and one EP in 2022 making them the youngest musical artists to do so, due to release issues all eleven albums were removed off all platforms except This is the Diary of Zedned and X (Deluxe) remaining on Apple streaming services.
In 2023, Jake took over the alias and continued the artistry without the help from Molly. He received backlash for being talentless and immature with his explicit lyrics to which this caused Jake to go into a hiatus. As well as struggling with the hate, he was going through his first breakup at the time which led him to release a breakup album with lyrics and melodies inspired from Cigarettes After Sex, Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975, the album was received poorly yet again for being 'too self-loathing'. Jake suffered with depression at the time which caused him to self-harm which deteriorated his mentality and caused him to have a few mental breakdowns on social media. After a long break, Jake returned back to the music scene with a come back single titled "Smile :)", which became the lead single to the indie-pop album Zedned Back From The Dead. The album followed the topics of self-loathing, healing, love and infatuation, Jake was going through a new time in his life as he explored more into his sexuality and became more proud of it. Throughout 2023, Jake released more albums under Zedned but they are also removed off of all streaming platforms due to release issues.
In 2024, Jake's sound shifted to include more synth-pop and dance-pop influences, keeping his comedic touch alive while also diving deeper into more personal themes. Jake’s creative momentum has ensured that Zedned remains a compelling presence in the indie-pop scene. He began to gain success within the charts. After 2 years, Jake finally released his remix of "Chip Shop" from comedic artist Kkbutterfly27xx, he gained worldwide attraction taking him all the way to a number 2 chart placement, making it his highest and first charting single ever. June 2024, Jake released another self-titled album but it being his actual name. He said the 11 tracks felt very personal to him and it only felt right for the album to be named after himself. The album was favourably received with singles like "Microwave" and "This Boy Is Haunting My Dreams But Honestly, I Love You" gaining a ton of streams and downloads making it one of his most streamed albums ever. The album debuted at number 5, making it his highest album debut at the time and his only ever available album charting. A few months later, Jake started to release new singles 'Right Now' which samples "Bimbo Doll" and "I'm The One" which samples "Head Head Honcho" these were the two lead singles to his album "The One", released August 16, 2024. The album was received positively with reviewers stating this is his best album and that the electronic and hyper-pop route is his strongest. The lyrics of the album were similar to his recent self-titled along the themes of infatuation, romance, heartbreak, self-loathing and suicidal thoughts, the album debuted at number 2 on the charts making it Jake's highest album chart placement.
On 23 August, 2024, it was found out that Jake tried to take his own life due to things occurring in his personal life. It hasn't been announced where or how Jake is now both mentally and physically.Script error: No such module "Draft topics".
