Aliki Chrysochou (Greek: Αλίκη Χρυσοχού, Greek pronunciation: [/aˈliki xr̠is̠oxu'/]; born May 31, 1983), best known as Aliki, is a Soprano of Greek and British descent, born in Limassol, Cyprus.[1]Aliki became known after her appearance on Britain's Got Talent seventh season, in 2013, where she competed in the semi-finals.[2]

Early life and studies

From a young age, Aliki started singing and taking piano lessons. She grew up in a family, where music played a central role; her mother listened to Pavarotti and Bocelli, and her father introduced her to Greek music by Theodorakis and Hadjidakis[3]. At the age of 11, Aliki was introduced to classical music, through which she "discovered a peaceful world, both serene and musically rich"[4].

Aliki grew up in London and after high school, she began her studies in Music at Sheffield University. After graduating, she studied at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City, the American actor-teacher's Uta Hagen Method of Musical Theatre and Drama. At the same time, Aliki continued her classical vocal studies with teachers from The Juilliard School of Music and Drama and conductors of the Metropolitan Opera, including British soprano Nelly Miricioiu. Aliki also studied closely with Tenor Armando Mora, Pier Giorgio Del Nunzio, Marco Balteri, Steven Crawford, Rob Johnston[5].

Britain's Got Talent [2013]

Although Aliki was involved in music from a young age, and had studied extensively in both UK and the US, she gained global success after her appearance on the 7th season of Britain's Got Talent in 2013. For her first audition, she performed "Bring Me to Life", by Evanescence[6].

For her appearance at the Semi-Finals, Aliki performed "Come What May"[7].

Awakenings Tour [2015]

Following her appearance on Britain's Got Talent, Aliki toured in the UK, the United States, Canada and Greece with the Awakenings Tour. The tour aimed at raising awareness for the Encephalitis Society, for which Aliki is an honorary ambassador[5].

Reflections [2016]

Aliki released her debut album, with the title Reflections in 2016[8]. The album was recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, at Smecky Studios. The album includes a blend of classics from musicals, opera and movies, as well as more contemporary melodies. It features works by Puccini, Gounod, Dvorak, Webber, Lara, Rota, and many more[8]. The album also features a duet with Greek-Cypriot singer, Michalis Hatzigianis[9].

Collaborations & Current Projects [2016]

To date, Aliki has performed around the world, in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Canary Islands, Greece, Cyprus, France, Turkey, Malta[10] and the UK, in personal concerts and in collaborations with other artists, such as Mario Frangoulis[11], Il Divo, Jonathan Antoine, George Perris, Thomas Weinhappel, Michalis Hadjiyiannis and many others. She also collaborated with conductors, including Lukas Karytinos, Yiannis Hadjiloizou, Richard Hein and Miriam Nemcova and Adam Klemens. Her performances include the concerts for the British Troops, The Sound of Music with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed at the Presidential Palace of Cyprus on multiple occasions[5].

In 2019, Aliki collaborated with Hermes Airports, creating a short film promoting Cyprus as a tourist destination[12][4].

My Kind Of Christmas [2020]

In 2020, Aliki recorded a Christmas Album, with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The album is a combination of classical and contemporary, mixing various styles, while also containing performances in 3 different languages.[13]

The album features a collection of favourite Christmas songs, such as Walking In The Air, The Christmas Song, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Silent Night, Santa Baby, Ave Maria, White Christmas and more.[14]

In December 2020, Aliki collaborated with the Cyprus Symphonic Orchestra and world-known conductor Gerardo Estrada Martínez, for a series of Christmas concerts.[15]

Personal Life

Aliki's mother is British, while her father is Greek-Cypriot. She is fluent in both English and Greek.[5]

Aliki is an ambassador of the Encephalitis Society[2]. At eighteen years old, she was diagnosed with focal encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain that wouldn't allow her to speak, read, write or walk. Aliki eventually recovered from the illness, and was able to sing again.[6]

Aliki has two children, born in 2016 and 2018.
