James L. Robo s a businessman in the energy and natural resources industries.

Current executive roles[edit]

In 2012/13 Robo became Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of NextEra Energy, Inc. In addition, he serves as Chairman of Florida Power & Light Company (a subsidiary of NextEra) and CEO of NextEra Energy Partners, LP. He is a Director of J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., and a lead independent director.[1] He is also a Director of Acquisition Corp.

Employment history[edit]

Before his current position, Robo held a variety of other roles at NextEra Energy. These include CEO and Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy. Before joining NextEra, he was President and CEO of a major division at GE Capital. At that firm, he also held the role of Manager of Business Development and General Manager of Distribution Operations.[2]

Other roles he has held include: Principal Executive Officer of Funding Corp. and ESI Tractebel Acquisition Corp,[3] General Manager for 6 Sigma Worldwide, Chairman and CEO of GE International Mexico and a member of the GE corporate development team, VP of Mercer Management Consulting, VP of Strategic Planning Associates and Director of Elamex SA de CV.[4]

Education[edit]

Robo has a Bachelor of Arts in European History summa cum laude from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He was a Baker Scholar at Harvard Business School.[5]

Awards[edit]

In 2012, Robo received the "Business leader of the Year" award from Florida University. The following year, with him at the helm, Forbes ranked NextEra Energy as Number 1 on the "World’s Most Admired Companies List". The same year, Ethisphere Institute named the firm one of the "World’s Most Ethical Companies".[6]
