James Mulheron is an English mixed martial artist currently competing in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. A professional competitor since 2010, he has formerly competed for Bellator.

Background[edit]

Born and raised in South Shields, Mulheron began training at the age of 19, persuaded by his father to try MMA. During his amateur career, Mulheron also worked in construction. Former Royal Marine recruit but left due to injury

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Mulheron began his amateur MMA career in 2010, going undefeated at 4-0, and captured the Made 4 The Cage Amateur Heavyweight Championship.

Beginning in 2012, Mulheron established himself among the top UK MMA Heavyweights. Under the Made 4 The Cage banner, he amassed a record of 10-1 over a period of five years, while also capturing the Heavyweight Championship twice.

Bellator MMA[edit]

Mulheron and was scheduled to face Mark Godbeer at Bellator 158 London in 2016, but instead he faced UFC veteran Neil Grove following a Godbeer injury. He won the fight via unanimous decision.

Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]

In May 2017, it was announced that Mulheron had signed with the UFC.[1]

In his debut, he faced Justin Willis on 16 July 2017 at UFC Fight Night: Nelson vs. Ponzinibbio.[2] He lost the bout by unanimous decision.[3]

Mulheron was expected to face Cyril Asker on 25 November 2017 at UFC Fight Night 122.[4] However, Mulheron was pulled from the card as he had failed an out-of-competition drug test stemming from sampled collected on November 10.[5] One year suspension was handed down from USADA an he would be eligible to fight on November 17, 2018.[6]

It was reported that on September 2018, Mulheron was no longer on the UFC roster and joined Bellator MMA.[7]

Mulheron is half-Scottish, his father is from Glasgow, Scotland.
