James Reynolds (correspondent)

James Edward Reynolds (born 20 May 1974) is the Tehran Correspondent for BBC News,[1] the main newsgathering department of the BBC, and its 24 hour news channels BBC World News and BBC News Channel, as well as the BBC's domestic television and radio channels and the BBC World Service. He was formerly the BBC South America Correspondent, followed by BBC Middle East Correspondent and BBC Beijing Correspondent. He became the BBC Tehran Correspondent in 2009.

Early life[edit]

Reynolds was born in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in May 1974, and is the son of former BBC correspondent Paul Reynolds.

Education[edit]

Reynolds was educated at Westminster School, an independent school for boys in Central London, followed by Christ's College at the University of Cambridge, where he gained a BA in French and Spanish, in 1996.

Career[edit]

Reynolds joined the BBC as a trainee in 1997, straight from university. From 1998 to 2001, he was the BBC's South America Correspondent, based in Santiago in Chile.[1][2] From 2001 to 2006 he was a BBC Middle East correspondent, based in Jerusalem.[1][2] From 2006 to 2009 he was the BBC's China correspondent, based in Beijing. He is now the BBC's Tehran Correspondent, even though the BBC is currently banned from Iran.

He spent 2009/10 as a Fellow at Harvard University.[3]
