Jan Domagala is a British Science Fiction author of the Col Sec series and Duncan Pryde series. He also published the SI6 and ATLAS series under the pseudonym Jack Dillon with the first book The Death List published in 2016.[1]

Domagala's first novel, Ronin, was published in 2010, the latest edition published under Red Penguin in 2020 and is the first book in the Col Sec Series. His love of storytelling started from a very early age and his love of reading eventually inspired him to create his own books.[2]

Early Life and Career[edit]

He was born in Staffordshire to a working-class family. Growing up, he describes himself as an introverted child who didn't make friends easily. he'd always had an interest in writing and went into to fully into it after the death of his father.[2] After several attempts, he began the Col Sec series which is an action-adventure series set in the twenty-fifth century.[3]

In the early 70’s, he was in an apprenticeship in screen printing for the ceramic industry[1]. In the early years of his apprenticeship, he had the pleasure of a trip on the schooner Captain Scott, a training ship as part of the crew. He sailed around Scotland and even up as far as Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides. He now lives in Matlock, Derbyshire Peak District.[3]

Jan has written 17 book under two pen names, the Col Sec and Duncan Pryde series, and as Jack Dillon, the SI6 and ATLAS series. He describes way of writing as that of a pantser as he likes the characters to take him where they want to go and see how the story develops.[4]

Pseudonyms

Jan Domagala

Jan started out as an independent writer and published his first book Ronin in which was to be the first in the ten-book series called the Col Sec Series. The book was set in a futuristic timeline about Kurt Stryder, a Special Forces soldier assigned to Col Sec, Colonial Security. He volunteers for an experimental program that changes him forever and puts him in the pathway of an enemy that will stop at nothing to obtain what they consider to be the key to controlling the galaxy. With this new threat, Kurt has to decide whether to remain a pawn of his government or to become a soldier with no master. The latest edition along with the four other sequels has been published under Red Penguin.

In an interview with Red Penguin Books, he says the reason he chose to set the timeline for Ronin to the future was that he'd tried to write a modern-day thriller and there was a lot of research on modern-day tech and such that he found extremely difficult to get the details right, so he decided he could make it up because by setting it on a future planet, no one can argue with him.[4]

The Duncan Pryde Series which comprises of one book, Lone Operator published in September 2021 and the second book, Raine of Terror set to be released on April 8th 2022.

Jack Dillon

As Jack Dillon, Jan wrote six books comprising of the SI6 and ATLAS series as an independent author he says the third book in the ATLAS series is his favourite book as it's the one he relates personally to the most.[4]
