Jane Francis Bolin is an American politician and mayor of Oakland Park, Florida. She was elected to the city commission of Oakland Park in 2018, becoming the first Korean American commissioner in Broward County.[1] Bolin served as the Vice Mayor in 2019, and in 2020, she was elected as Oakland Park mayor.[2]

Political career[edit]

Bolin was elected as commissioner of Oakland Park, Florida in 2018. As a candidate, Bolin received endorsements from The South Florida Sun Sentinel, Metro Broward Firefighters Local 3080, Hispanic Vote, Police Benevolent Association, and The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida.[3][4][5]

She served until 2020, at which point she was elected as Oakland Park mayor.[6] Bolin’s term will expire in 2022.[7]

As a politician, Bolin has been noted for her bipartisan approach.[8] During the 2020 Presidential election, Bolin called for the approval of Amendment 3 to the Florida Constitution, which would establish a top-two open primary system for state office primary elections.[9] Amendment 3 was eventually defeated.[10]

Memberships and civic involvement[edit]

Bolin currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Broward, as an at-large director of the Florida League of Mayors, and is a member of the Governmental and Public Policy Advocacy Committee of the Florida Bar.[11][12][13] In 2020, Bolin became the first female chair of the Global Governance Committee for international nonprofit Entrepreneurs Organization (EO).[14]

Education[edit]

Bolin earned her Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law, and she has been an adjunct faculty member at St. Thomas University School of Law and Nova Southeastern University. She received a master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Radford University.[15]

Personal life[edit]

Jane Bolin resides in Oakland Park, FL. She played rugby for Radford University and was also a member of the first Women’s Professional Football League where she played middle linebacker.[16]

Bolin practices real estate law and co-founded her own private practice firm and an an attorney-operated title company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[17]
