Mertzlufft earned a bachelor's degree from Houghton College and Juris Doctor with a concentration in Intellectual Property & Privacy Law from University at Buffalo. He was then admitted to the New York State Bar Association.

As an attorney, Mertzlufft has specialized in Intellectual Property & Privacy Law cases.[1]
Politicial Career[edit]
On March 28, 2020, Mertzlufft announced his campaign for the New York State Senate.[2]. He is endorsed by both the Republican Party and the Conservative Party.[3]
