Jason Brett Serle (born 15 May 1975) is an English writer, filmmaker, musician and NLP Master with a particular focus on themes involving psychology, spirituality, wellness and human potential.[1][2]
Writing
He has written articles for Jain Spirit Magazine[3] and the Watkins Review[4] as well as interviewing people such as Eckhart Tolle, Robert Anton Wilson, Andrew Cohen and Amado Crowley[4] and is mentioned in Crowley's 2002 book 'Liber Alba: The Questions Most Often Asked of an Occult Master' as being the only other person to have seen The Book of Desolation; a book purported to have been brought back from Cairo by his father, Aleister Crowley, in 1904.[5]
He wrote the chapter titled "It Was the Divine Play of Hide and Seek" in Ralph Metzner's 2003 book 'Teonanácatl: Sacred Mushroom of Visions'[6] and in 2007 he published his own book 'Kissing Achilles' Heel: The Joyful Unmasking of Delusion',[7] "a collection of 63 short pieces – parables, fables, stories, commentaries, poems, letters and conversations" which was intended to "present a challenge to our unquestioned assumptions about the nature of existence". The book has found a small but loyal following and has been praised by such people as the late Indian sage of Advaita Vedanta, Ramesh Balsekar.[7]
Film
In 2010 he received the runner-up prize in the 24 Hour Film Challenge at the Marbella International Film Festival for his short, Light Paranoia.[8]
In 2012 he wrote and produced his first documentary film, 'Mind Your Mind: A Primer for Psychological Independence' which looks at the psychological methods used to manipulate people and is divided into sections dealing specifically with 'Attention', 'The Human Biocomputer', 'Advertising', 'Ambiguities' and 'Politics'.[9] He also composed and performed most of the soundtrack which also features music by Explosions in the Sky. It is distributed by Journeyman Films in the UK[1] and Film Media Group in the US.[10] The film was an official selection for the LIDF (London International Documentary Festival) in 2012.[11]
Music
He composes and produces instrumental music under the moniker 21st Century Sounds[2] and released the single 'Cuffs & Collars' in 2017 under the pseudonym El Res on Chuck D's SpitDigital record label featuring the Public Enemy deejay Terminator X.[12]
