Jason Trost (entrepreneur)

Jason Trost is an American entrepreneur based in London. He co-founded Smarkets, the UK-headquartered event trading platform, in 2008.[1][2]

He is regularly cited in the mainstream press for his expertise in the online betting field and around gambling regulation.[3][4][5][6][7] Trost has also been cited for his knowledge of prediction markets[8] , providing analysis around the US 2016 presidential election, among others.[9]

Also, he notably made the decision to allow staff to set their own salaries for their jobs.[10]

In November 2016, Trost was named Innovation Entrepreneur of the Year in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.[11]

After the UK's vote to leave the European Union in 2016, Trost declared that he would leave the UK and open a new office for Smarkets in Santa Monica, California.[12]

Personal life[edit]

Trost is a graduate of Computer Science from Northwestern University and previously worked as a financial trader at Great Point Capital in Chicago, Illinois.[13][14] He was married on 27 February 2016 to Astrid Hugentobler.[15]
