Jason Unruhe

Jason Unruhe or Jason Caden is a Maoist Canadian Vlogger based in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He is known for making YouTube videos for his channel Maoist Rebel News. He has also written for Young Pioneer tours, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's embassy in Norway, and is a contributor to PressTV.[1] He is known for his opposition towards Libertarianism and Anarcho-Capitalism,[2] along with his apologism towards the actions of the government of North Korea along with his criticism of the government of South Korea.[3][4] Unruhe claims distant Saami ancestry and self-identifies as an indigenous person.

Views[edit]

He is a staunch supporter of Maoism Third Worldism, and claims that Marxism in its previous interpretations is outdated and that the first world has been exploiting the third world. Unruhe has stated that the Soviet Union and its security agency at the time, the NKVD, were "not responsible for" the Katyn massacre.[5] He is openly critical of the Kurdish YPG and Rojava due to their alliance with the United States, declaring that their purpose is to prevent the unification of the Syrian Arab Republic.[6] Unruhe, in 2014, released a video in which he states that while he believes that the victims of September 11 attacks were civilians, they were not innocent victims. Unruhe believes that the World Trade Center was run by bureaucrats who directly profit from the exploitation of the third world.[7]

Unruhe is opposed to the Falun Gong, and has called them a "religious cult."[8]

Unruhe is critical towards anti-feminist Men's Rights Activist Roosh V, and is supportive of Third World Feminism.[9] However, Unruhe is opposed to Identity Politics, which he views a first worldist obstacle to Marxism. Which, in his eyes, has led to first world workers rejecting Marxian Class Struggle. Unruhe has stated that the working class in the first world has abandoned Marxism and has now oriented itself towards Social Democracy.[10]

Criticism[edit]

Unruhe has been criticized by Communists. One critique is that he has not properly read Marx, and has misinterpreted Lenin's State and Revolution.[11] He has also been criticized for claiming that Maoism and Third Worldism are sometimes mutually exclusive, and for calling Enver Hoxha a racist.[12] Other socialists have criticized his third worldism, claiming that in order for third world revolutions to succeed, it requires assistance from the first world.[13] His theory has also been criticized for economism and portraying the third world as a monolithic, revolutionary bloc without thought given to class contradiction which exists internally.[14]

Non-Communists have also criticized Jason Unruhe for his support of North Korea, even when it has acted in ways that would be deemed deviant from Communist ideology.[15]
