Joseph Ikwan Ejim known professionally as Jay Ikwan is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and minister. [1] He is best known for eclectic [contemporary] styles of music and his unorthodox Christian ministry.

Early Years[edit]

Ikwan was born in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria to Prince Ikwan Ejim Akuma & Princess Chinyere Ikwan Ejim ( nee Patience Tamunoprinye Nne Cookey-Gam ). His origin is from Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State. He is a descendant of His Royal Majesty Eze Chuku Oke Ukpabi, the first King of Amogudu in Abiriba Ancient Kingdom of Abia State, Nigeria.

Jay's interest in music began as a teenager. After he was sent to live with his uncle at Eagle Island in Port Harcourt, he discovered his songwriting skill. He is a self-taught drummer, pianist and guitarist.

Jay Ikwan was licensed in 2007 as a Christian Minister and served as Lead Pastor of The Classic Life Centre in Aba before relocating to the United Kingdom. He has been actively involved in information technology, media and Christian ministry for over a decade.

Music Career[edit]

Growing up in Nigeria, Jay was a child prodigy. Picking up a guitar for the first time as a teenager after watching a neighbour play, he didn't begin writing songs until his High School days. Jay Ikwan found his voice in writing songs, and since then, music has become a personal calling that he hasn’t turned away from.

In 2006, he partnered with an independent production group and hip-hop label Blackworld Records to release an EP called , Kronikles .

Jay moved to Southampton, United Kingdom in 2015 where he is currently based.

Jay’s early recordings include “Stunning Lady”, “Hip Dance” all from the Kronikles project. In July 2018, he released “Skittish”. This song became a local hit in his city of Southampton, United Kingdom and went on to give him recognition on a national scale. He was co-signed by London-based broadcaster & songwriter, Tom Robinson of BBC Radio 6 whose best songs are 2-4-6-8 Motorway, Glad To be Gay and War Baby. Tom Robinson has also co-written songs with Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Dan Hartman and Manu Katche.

In Tom's exact words " Jay Ikwan has a flow that is so smooth that I find the song "SKITTISH" irresistible !” "

After this co-sign, Jay Ikwan appeared on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape 23 July 2018.
