John Pressley, better known by his stage name Jay Prezi, is an American rapper from the Harlem neighborhood of New York City..[1]

Musical Career[edit]

Jay Prezi began his musical career under the name "Jay Pres" in 2012, when he released his first mixtape Living Legend. In 2018 he became officially known as "Jay Prezi." Music has always been a major piece of his life. Throughout his childhood, his father traveled the country on tour with his uncle, the legendary jazz musician Roy Ayers.[2] His mother was also a songstress who would sing in tandem with his father from time to time. [3] His parents actually met through music, singing backup together on Access TV. His musical and athletic skills led to him getting accepted into SUNY Purchase, a top performing arts college in New York. Jay used his time at school to itch his artistic scratch in the studio booth within the school’s library. [4]

In July 2018, Jay Prezi released his debut album, John John: MCLXXV, in which he achieved incredible success as an independent artist. His first single, New York Sh!t feat. Harlem Beanz and G MiMs, was in rotation at Hot 97 and Sirius XM’s Shade 45 for four consecutive months, in addition to having received positive feedback from Vibe Magazine and The RapFest. [5] [6] The project was created as a tribute to Harlem, specifically his block of 117th and 5th, hence the use of the Roman numeral equivalent of 1175 in the title.

After a string of highly successful events, such as appearing in the New York regional campaign for Nike’s Just Do It and opening for Dave East at various tour dates, Jay Prezi released his follow up EP, blood.sweat.tears. [7] [8] [9] [10] On the EP, Prezi demonstrates qualities of success by truly putting his blood, sweat, and tears into the project. The entire body of work was mixed, mastered, and recorded by the artist. [11] His athletic career has come back full circle, as his latest visual for "Revenge" was sponsored by Nike and filmed at Milbank, the recreational center he attended as an adolescent. [12]
