Jennifer Dunn, commonly known as Kitty, is the drummer in the American electropunk band Mindless Self Indulgence.

Biography[edit]

Born August 1st (year unknown), Kitty started drumming in elementary school, but stopped in middle school. She was storing her drums at a friend's house, but the friend's mom didn't like all the equipment taking up room, so she arranged for another friend to hold on to it. Unfortunately, that friend thought it had been given to them, and ended up pawning it. Years later, while attending the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, she ran into[1] Jimmy Urine, whose band, Mindless Self Indulgence, had shows booked but no drummer.[unreliable source?] She then offered to play for them (using a borrowed kit) until they found a permanent drummer. Later she was offered a chance to play with MSI permanently, and started playing again. When returning the borrowed drum kit, the owner let her keep it.[citation needed] A boutique drum shop built a custom fit, jazz-sized kit, which she used for years until she obtained a Pearl sponsorship in 2008. Kitty plays an acoustic drum kit (In "Evening Wear", the steel drums) which is augmented by backing tracks consisting of sampled "loops" for the live show. She uses Pearl drums, Zildjian cymbals, Pearl hardware, Evans drum heads, and Pro-Mark sticks. She is one of the original members of MSI.
