Jeon Jeongguk (Hangul: 전정국; born September 1, 1997), most often credited as Jungkook, is a South Korean idol singer, singer-songwriter, dancer, composer and producer. He is the main vocalist and maknae of the South Korean group Bangtan Boys, managed under Big Hit Entertainment.

Biography[edit]

Jungkook was born in Busan, South Korea on September 1, 1997 and has one older brother.[1] In February 2014, he enrolled as a student at School of Performing Arts Seoul.

Career[edit]

Predebut[edit]

Bangtan Boys' first members were recruited through Big Hit Entertainment's "Hit it" auditions in 2010 and 2011, a nationwide audition where people were recruited from their local provinces, such as Busan or Daegu. Jungkook was casted in Busan by Big Hit Entertainment after leaving the Superstar K3 auditions in 7th grade. To work on his dancing in preparation for debut, he trained with Movement Lifestyle in LA during the summer of 2012.

2013-present: Bangtan Boys[edit]

On June 13, 2013, Jungkook made his debut as a member of Bangtan Boys on Mnet's M! Countdown with the track "No More Dream" from their debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool.[2][3] In 2015, he began to take an active part in producing tracks for the group with the release of 화양연화 pt.1.[4]

While he did not attend due to group promotions, Jungkook won first place in the 'Cover Artist' section at KCON 2015 for covering various songs by Zion.T and Crush. In August 2015, Jungkook took part in the Chuseok Special Idol Star Athletics Championships and represented Bangtan Boys in track and field. He won first place in the 400-meter relay.[5][6]

In September 2015, he participated in the 'One Dream One Korea' campaign as one of the many artists singing in the song of the same name, which was written in remembrance for the Korean War.[7][8] The song was released on September 21, 2015, and performed at One K Concert in Seoul on October 15.[9]

On December 9, 2015, a Vine surfaced depicting one of the group's managers seemingly threatening to strike Jungkook in the background of another member walking by, pulled from their 2016 Seasons Greetings behind-the-scenes DVD.[10] The vine went viral and many fans expressed being upset with circumstances in the video, and Big Hit released a statement later that evening stating that the manager had been dismissed and was appropriately punished.[11][12] None of the members have released any statements about the incident.

At KBS Song Festival 2015, he performed a special stage of 'Yanghwa BRDG' with Zion.T.[13][14]
