Jeremy Tan Wei Yang (born 1990)[citation needed] is a Singaporean politician and retired businessman. He is best known for contesting Mountbatten Single Member Constituency (SMC) during the 2025 Singaporean general election, where he received the largest percentage of the vote for any independent candidate since 1972.

Career

According to Tan's LinkedIn page, he first started working at Allianz in Market Management in 2011. Afterwards, he owned and invested in various companies.[1]

Political career

In the general election, Tan contested Mountbatten SMC, preventing a PAP walkover.[2] Tan used a dog as his election symbol.[3] On May 1, 2025, Tan held a rally at the Home of Athletics where he defended his policies while attacking PAP candidate Gho Sze Kee.[4] Tan received 36.18% of the vote against Gho's 63.82%, the largest percentage of the vote for any independent candidate since 1972, and making him one of two independent candidates alongside Darryl Lo not to lose his deposit since 2001.[5]

Following the elections, Tan confirmed that he would contest in Mountbatten SMC or Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC in the next election. Tan also stated that he was in contact with various parties, but declined to reveal which.[6]

Personal life

Tan is married and has three dogs.[7]
