Life and career
2000–2016: Early life
Park Jihoon was born on March 14, 2000, in Busan, South Korea. He is the youngest among his family, consisting of an elder brother and parents. Jihoon found interest in singing when he watched YG Entertainment reality survival show, “WIN: Who Is Next,” where two groups of trainees, Team A and Team B, fought to debut as “WINNER.” He revealed that after watching the trainees perform in the monthly evaluation through the program, he wished to become a singer like them too. He was the school vice-president and a fast relay-race runner in his junior high school years. Jihoon wanted to become a pilot or a lawyer, but after a newfound interest in the idol life, he later wanted to become a singer. He passed the first YG audition through Nataraja Academy but failed to pass the second round. However, YG cast him back, and he finally joined YG on April 10, 2016.
2017-present: Career beginnings and debut with Treasure
While training, Jihoon became a part of the "YG Silver Boys," which consisted of 11 trainees of YG, grouped together under the specified name. He appeared on the 6th and 7th episodes of the 2017 reality survival program of JYP Entertainment: Stray Kids alongside a few other YG trainees. In March 2018, YG removed him as a trainee. He joined AXIS Company and trained for a few months but later, around September 2018, YG decided to give him another chance as a trainee, and he was cast back into YG Entertainment. Jihoon was introduced as a part of trainee Team B for the Survival Program YG Treasure Box. Although he did not make the final line-up for debut at first, on January 29, 2019, YG announced that he would be forming a second group from the program, called MAGNUM, where he was announced as the 5th member. It was decided that the two groups would promote together as Treasure 13, and also as separate two units. The debut was, however, delayed due to some scandals surrounding the company. On January 6, 2020, YGE announced that the group would be renamed as Treasure with 12 members, with integration of the two sub-units, TREASURE and MAGNUM. After 4 years of training and the pre-debut activities with Treasure, he made his debut as one of the twelve members of Treasure and its leader alongside Choi Hyun-suk with the lead single "Boy" from the single album The First Step: Chapter One on August 7, 2020. Jihoon became an MC on Inkigayo starting March 7, 2021.
