Hart met musician Jason Isbell at a marching band competition where Isbell was playing trumpet for Florence, Alabama's Rogers High School. According to Hart, "You cross paths when you're kids in a small town. There was a Mexican joint [the now-closed La Fonda Mexicana] we could always go to underage and hang out and eat nachos and watch the bands. They would get us to sit in and play stuff."[2]

Career[edit]

Hart has been playing bass since the age of 11. He and was the first member to join Jason Isbell's backing band, The 400 Unit. The band's first show took place at a Chattanooga fried chicken joint in 2006.[2] In addition to being a permanent member of The 400 Unit, Hart has contributed bass to bands such as Bahamas, Hannah Aldridge, Red Mouth, Amanda Shires, Josh Ritter, Sadler Vaden and has produced King Corduroy's Avalon Ave., recorded at Muscle Shoals' FAME Recording Studio.[3][4][5]

In response to the COVID pandemic "quarantine," Hart, along with his Jason and the 400 Unit bandmates, appeared in a series of remote performances of the band's hits.[6][7]
