JioTV is an Indian Live TV streaming app owned by Jio Platforms..[1], a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. Launched on 5 September 2016, JioTV has over 650 TV channels[2][3][4] including 100+ HD channels in 15+ languages and 11 genres. The application is available on Google Play Store & App Store. As of July 2020, the Android app has over 100 million downloads.[5]

JioTV was launched on 5 September along with the public launch of Jio in 2016.[6][7] JioTV is one of the products provided by Jio Platforms ( JioSaavn, JioNews, JioMeet, JioChat & JioTalks ) which are exclusive for Jio users in India.

JioTV web version was launched on Dec 2017 [8] but it was taken down after two days because of some technical litigation issues [9]

Content Partners[edit]

JioTV has partnered with different broadcasting companies such as Viacom18, Sony, Zee[10], NDTV, Times Now, TV Today Network, Turner, ABP News Network, and Discovery network to provide content in different categories Business, Devotional, Educational, Entertainment, Infotainment, Kids, Lifestyle, Movies, Music, News, and Sports. JioTV has 17 'Jio Darshan' channels which telecast proceedings from a few Indian temples (Govind Dev Ji Mandir[11], Mahavir temple[12][13])


32 government education channels on JioTV[14] are hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources Development under Swayam Prabha.[15]

In June 2020, JioTV tiedup with Assam goverment to host educational channel "Gyan Brikshya"..[16] In July 2020, JioTV has partnered with Manipur,[17] Maharashtra,[18][19] Haryana[20] , Telangana[21] and Himachal [22] state governments to telecast education channels for e-classes. In Aug 2020, Nagaland goverment has issued a notice that "School Education Nagaland" telecasted by Department of School Education will be available on JioTV.[23]

In Oct 2020, Shimla education minister launched three education channels on JioTV [24]

Viewership[edit]

According to a Kalagato report on OTT space, in 2018, JioTV saw around 18% of active users after Hotstar which has 40% active users. In terms of national reach, Hotstar and JioTV both had 30% and 24% respectively market share. [26]

JioTV recorded 74.5 million unique visitors in March 2019, which was an increase from 31.2 million unique visitors in March of the previous year.[27]

Features[edit]

JioTV app is compatible with android 4.4 and above and it has features such as picture-in-picture mode,[28] video quality selection ( Low, Medium, High), dark mode support,[29] set a reminder for upcoming TV programs.
