Early life and Education
Jishnu is the son of Malayalam film actor and director Raghavan and Shobha. He did his schooling in Chennai and later at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. He won the best student award during his time in school and has a BTech Mechanical Engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology, Kozhikode.[2][3]
Acting Career
Jishnu Raghavan was a promising actor, first appearing as a child artist in the 1987 film Kilipattu. After that, he acted in Nammal[4] in 2002. He made his film debut opposite Siddharth Bharathan[5] in that film directed by Kamal which turned out to be a blockbuster and commercial success. His performance in the film won him the Matrubhumi Awards and Kerala Film Critics Award for Best Debut Male. He followed it up with lead roles in Choonda, Freedom[6] Parayam, Two Wheeler and Njaan. Then, he took on supportive parts in Nerariyan CBI, Pauran , Yugapurushan, and a negative role in Chakkara Muthu along with Dileep.
Along with a few uncredited films, he took a break from the film industry to work on developing Information Technology in rural areas. He later returned to the film industry and did supportive roles in Nidra[7], Ordinary, Banking Hours 10 to 4 and a guest role in Ustad Hotel. He was also offered to act in the Prabhuvinte Makkal which was released in 2012. In 2013, he again did the lead roles in the films Annum Innum Ennum[8] and Rebecca Uthup Kizhakkemala[9].
He also experimented with acting at Barry John Theater Studios in Mumbai. In the same year, he signed his upcoming films Misfit alongside Sidhartha Shiva, then Indian Coffee House [10] and iPhone with his father and actor Raghavan and Vineeth, but these films did not release in theatres. Also, he signed the film Veerappa, but at that time he was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. Before his treatment continued, he successfully completed his Tamil debut as the lead actor in the 2015 film Kallappadam opposite Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, which received positive reviews.[11]
During his first battle with cancer, his friends made a short film called Speechless[12] and dedicated it to him. It has been circulating online for a long time. It is written and directed by debutant Jolly Joseph; it is about a college lecturer whose life is drastically changed by cancer. The short film stars film producer Shafir Saith, who is also Jishnu's friend, in the lead role.
He made his debut in Bollywood with a negative role in the Traffic[13] which was released in 2016 and was his last film. He also acted in short films, most notably Karma Games with Adarsh Balakrishna, which was shot in 2013 and released in 2017. This was his directorial debut and cinematography work. Adarsh Balakrishna paid tribute to Jishnu by releasing this short film.[14]
