Jody Otu (born January 19, 1997) is a Jamaican author[1]
She is best known for her creation (at the tender age of 12 years old) of a remarkable anthology of poems dedicated to her late grandfather.
Career[edit]
At the age of 12, Otu published her first book It's All About Daddy[2]
In 2016, Otu moved to The Cayman Islands where she enrolled in the University College of the Cayman Islands and started a degree in Literary Studies.
Otu's anthology of poems have been sold through a plethora of online stores and in physical locations. Some locations including but not limited to, Barnes and Noble,[3] Amazon, [4] and Books & Books [5]
Personal life[edit]
Otu was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica in 1997 [6]. She is the daughter of Joseph C. Otu and Paulette Findlayson. She is of Afro-Jamaican descent, With a father from Cape Coast, Ghana and mother from Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Throughout her early life, Jody lived with her mother in [Montego Bay, Jamaica], until her mother's sudden passing in April of 2016 which prompted Jody's move to The Cayman Islands. She currently resides with her father who is a local contractor and owner of Let's Go Building and Maintenance ltd.[7] As she works towards the completion of her Literary Studies degree at the University College of the Cayman Islands
While attending Preparatory School, Jody enjoyed writing letters, poems, and descriptive paragraphs. Her writings exposed the depth of her imagination and the span of her understanding for the English Language. As early as eleven (11) years old. But it was Jody's sister Akilah Cunningham (née Robinson) who discovered her incredible writing capabilities and suggested that the world needed to take a look. Circa 2009, Akilah who lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida would communicate with Jody via e-mail. Jody would share her writings in an effort to gain her older sister's approval. This is when she shared the poems which were later combined and published as Jody's first book, It's All About Daddy[8]
