From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Joey the squirrel is a squirrel that attacked a burglar who entered the house of his owner in Meridian, Idaho on Feb. 12, 2017.[1] The burglar attempted to open Adam Pear's gun safe.[2] Joey is a pet squirrel that was owned by Pearl. He had been adopted by Pearl when his was just days old. At the time of Joey's confrontation he was about six months old. Joey was friendly and had been trained to use a litter box.[2][1] The burglar was apprehended later. He was found to have scratches on his hands.[2] Joey was unharmed[1]

An officer who responded to the call by Pearl later returned the few stolen items and reported that the apprehended burglar admitted to the burglary. During the questioning she noted the scratches on the hands of the suspect who then described the confrontation with Joey: " 'Yeah, damn thing kept attacking me and wouldn't stop until I left.'"[1]

Some time after the incident, Pearl began conditioning Joey to become comfortable in a natural outdoor environment.Since the incident Joey has been released into the wild.[3]

Though no video documentation exists,[1] US and international media outlets picked up the story to give it significant coverage.[2]
