John Abbott (born 19 April 1945) is a British actor and writer.
Career[edit]
His television credits include Timeslip, Z-Cars, Softly, Softly, Special Branch, Doctor Who (in the serial Horror of Fang Rock), Edward & Mrs. Simpson, Angels, Bergerac, Casualty and Wycliffe.
Abbott was also cast by his director from his Doctor Who story as the Vicar in the early series of Emmerdale Farm and recounts that anecdote on the commentary on the DVD release of that story.
He was also the Vicar who appeared at the end of the film Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) and asked Hugh Grant's character if he could be of assistance when the character was cursing at the prospect of his impending marriage to the wrong girl.
Abbott went on to become a teacher of acting and taught Shakespeare, stand-up and improvisation at the Arts Educational Schools, London, where he was also Head of Academic Studies for a time before retiring in 2012.[1] He wrote The Improvisation Book, an introduction to conducting successful improvisation sessions within three volumes (Nick Hern Books, 2007-2012).[2][3][4]
