John Baptist Imokola, is a Ugandan Journalist who serves as a lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University, the largest public university of Uganda.[1][2][3]

Background and education[edit]

Imokola is the 7th born in a family of 8 children to Henderika Atyang and Valentino Obarasa Imarot of Okame Village, Amonikakinsi Parish, Buteba Subcounty in Busia District, Uganda in the Eastern Region of the country.[4] For primary school, Imokola scholeed from Amonikakinei Primary School and Buteba Primary School. He attended Kayoro SS for his O-Level and Nabumali High School for A-Level education. He holds a Bachelor of Mass Communication and a Master of Journalism and Communication,[2] both from Makerere University as well as a PhD fellow from College of Humanities and Social Sciences.[5][1]

Lecturer[edit]

Imokola started working at Makerere as a teaching assistant in the Department of Journalism and Communication in 2012 before teaching at International Institute of Business and Media Studies, Nkumba University and Muteesa 1 Royal University.[2][3]

Journalist[edit]

He started as an intern at Uganda Television in 2005, then joined Record TV as an anchor and reporter in 2006, became an editor and head of news and in 2008 he joined now the WBS TV. He has served in various positions such as a News Editor, News Producer with several local televisions stations including Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, WBS TV,[6] NBS TV and with occasional contributions to International networks.[7][8] [5][2]

He serves as a consultant in broadcast Journalism and Communication. He is involved in research work with interests in Journalism practice and Media management.[5][9][3] He is married to Zaidah Ramadhan [10]
