John Kane-Berman

John Kane-Berman is Chief Executive of the South African Institute of Race Relations, an organization with a proud history of involvement in the fight against apartheid.[1] Prior to joining the Institute, he was a leading journalist at the Financial Mail of South Africa.

He was educated at St. John's College, a leading high school in Johannesburg. As a Rhodes Scholar, he attended the University of Oxford and graduated with BA and MA degrees. Prior to that, he studied at the University of the Witwatersrand where he was elected President of the Students' Representative Council during a time of considerable student unrest against the apartheid regime. During his tenure, Kane-Berman was at the forefront of student demonstrations against apartheid and for integration of the university.

He is on the Board of the New Era Schools Trust and an Honorary VP of KZN Indaba. [1] Kane-Berman is listed in the Who's Who of South Africa
