John Lee Dumas is an American entrepreneur and podcaster based in Puerto Rico.[5] He is the founder and host of Entrepreneurs on Fire, a business podcast where he interviews successful entrepreneurs.[6] As of 2018, his podcasts have received 70 million downloads with 1 million monthly listens. In 2019, Dumas was a keynote presenter at the annual Agents of Change conference held in Portland, Maine. From interviewing entrepreneurs, once he started generating income, he then came to be known as an expert in podcasting.

Early life[edit]

Dumas was born and raised in Maine. He graduated from Providence College on an Army ROTC scholarship in 2002. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army.[7] After a 13-month tour of duty in Iraq as an Armor Platoon Leader, Dumas completed his service to the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 2010.[8]

Career[edit]

Upon leaving the U.S. Army, Dumas enrolled at Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island.[9] Dropping out after one semester, Dumas took a job in corporate finance at John Hancock in Boston. Later, he went to New York City, where he worked for a technology startup until departing to San Diego in 2009.[10]

In San Diego, Dumas began a career in real estate. Upon a friend's suggestion, he began listening to podcasts in order to pass the time during his long drives. He started listening to NPR, while exploring other shows such as Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income and Cliff Ravenscraft’s Podcast Answer Man.

After moving back to Maine in mid-2011 to pursue a career in Commercial Real Estate, Dumas thought of starting a different venture. He realized none of his favorite Podcasts offered daily content. This gave him the idea of starting his own podcast. He developed the concept of a daily podcast that would feature the story of successful entrepreneurs. He named it Entrepreneurs On Fire.[10][11]

EOFire launched September 22, 2012. As his subscribers grew, he published Podcast Launch in the Amazon bookstore.[12] Podcast Launch is a guide of the exact steps he took to launch Entrepreneurs On Fire.[13] In 2013, Dumas launched Podcasters’ Paradise, a community of podcasters.[14]

EOFire has featured several entrepreneurs including Tony Robbins, Seth Godin, Gary Vaynerchuk, Barbara Corcoran, Tim Ferriss, and Brian Tracy.[15][16] The show was named Best of iTunes in 2013. EOFire generates 7 figures in revenue annually and Dumas continues to openly share his income breakdown in a monthly report on his site, verified by a CPA.[17][18] Dumas' audience has almost quadrupled since 2013, and in 2015, he made $195,000 in income.[19][20] As of 2018, Dumas has podcasted over 2,000 episodes.[21]

Dumas presented at the 2019 Agents of Change, an annual business conference held in September in Maine.[22] Being sponsored by companies such as Audiobooks and other companies has helped his business grow.[14] His is one of the classes included on "How To Start A Podcast Bundle" available on Engadget.[2] Dumas has been interviewed on business related news pieces for his insights on podcasting and e-marketing.[23][24][25]
