John Mortensen
John Mortensen is an American pianist. He is best known for improvising in classical music recitals and promoting classical improvisation.[1]
Education[edit]
Mortensen received a B.M.A in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan School of Music, his M.M. in Piano Performance, and his D.M.A. in Piano Performance and Literature at the University of Maryland. He is currently is a professor of music at Cedarville University. In 2016, he was named Faculty Scholar of the Year.[2]
Career[edit]
For 2019-2020, Mortensen received the Global Scholar Award under the Fulbright Scholar program to visit Canada, United Kingdom, and Lithuania to teach historic improvisation.[3] Mortensen's book, "The Pianist's Guide to Historic Improvisation" reached #1 on Amazon's new releases in both the piano and music instruction categories.[4]
Mortensen is a Steinway Artist.[5]
