Pedro Piquero (Seville, January 28, 1976), also known as Pedro Kaiten Piquero, is a Spanish pianist and Zen Master.[1]

Piquero completed his musical training with Esteban Sánchez in Spain, and in the United States with Caio Pagano, respectively. He also resided at the Belgais Center for the Study of Arts directed by the pianist Maria João Pires in Portugal. Later he left concerts, dedicating himself to making recordings.[2] He has recorded for the record labels Verso, Columna Música, Nîbius and Brilliant Classics.[3]

In his work as a translator, Pedro Piquero, together with Gudō Wafu Nishijima, has edited in four volumes the Shōbōgenzō by Eihei Dogen (Sirio, 2013-2016), the foundational philosophical text of Japanese Soto Zen Buddhism, and the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā by Nāgārjuna (Sirio, 2019).[4]

Parallel to his artistic work, in 2017 Pedro Piquero received in Japan, from the Venerable Peter Rodo Rocca, the Dharma transmission of Soto Zen Buddhism in the lineage of the Zen Master Gudō Wafu Nishijima, of whom he was his last disciple. Currently, he is president of the Dogen Sangha in Spain and director of Zendo Gudo.[5]
