Joilson Melo is a Brazilian businessman and legal activist.[2] [3] He came to public attention after he initiated a legal battle against the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso.[4] [5]

In 2019, he initiated a legal battle against the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso, asserting that anyone regardless of if they have an active lawyer representing them or not, should be allowed to file court cases electronically so long as they have a Brazilian certificate.[6] [7] The request was filed with the National Justice Council (CNJ), the regulatory body of all Courts of Justice in Brazil.[8]
The collegiate, unanimously in the 70th Virtual Session, followed the vote of Minister Humberto Martins, national magistrate of Justice.[9] [10] With this request made by Joilson Melo, the minister ordered the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso (TJMT) to enable the petition by the citizen who holds the digital certificate within the scope of special civil courts and without the need to be assisted by a lawyer. [11] [12]
