Jon Hawkins is an American politician and a Republican member of the Utah House of Representatives representing District 57 since January 1, 2019. He lives in Pleasant Grove, Utah, with his wife Mary and their four children.

Personal life and education[edit]

Jon Hawkins grew up in Orem, Utah, with four brothers and a sister. He went to school at Orem Elementary, where he was the student body secretary; Lakeridge Junior High School, where he was the 9th grade class president; and Mountain View High School, where he participated and excelled in not only academics, but also a myriad of extracurricular activities.

Hawkins then served an mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Seoul, Korea, and then earned a B.A. in Public Relations from Brigham Young University.

At BYU, Hawkins met and married Mary Hinckley. As soon as he finished school, the two of them took a job in Washington, D.C., to pursue his career in public relations, while Mary finished her nursing degree at Georgetown University. Hawkins joined Edelman Worldwide where he worked on several public affairs campaigns for clients such as the 9/11 Commission, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Panama Canal, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Association of American Railroads, and the LDS Church.

The Hawkins returned to Utah in 2006 for work. They have lived in Pleasant Grove for the past 14 years. In 2008, Hawkins started a Master of Business Administration program at the Marriott School of Management at BYU, finishing in 2010. He has coached football and baseball teams for youth in the community, served on the Pleasant Grove Planning Commission, and held various ecclesiastical responsibilities.

Since 2011, Jon has worked for Workfront, currently directing the Partner Solutions team as a pre-sales consultant.

He and Mary have four children.

Political career[edit]

Hawkins was elected in November 2018. He has served on the House Judiciary Committee, House Government Operations Committee, Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee and several interim committees. He also serves on an advisory board for the School of Education at Utah Valley University.

Elections[edit]

  • 2020 Hawkins ran uncontested in both the primary and general elections.
  • 2018 When District 57 incumbent Republican Representative Brian Greene retired and left the seat open, Hawkins was one of two candidates from among three chosen by the Utah County Republican Convention for the June 26, 2018, Republican primary. He won the primary with 2,974 votes (58.2%), and won the November 6, 2018, general election with 9,256 votes (76.2%) against United Utah Party Candidate Hillary Sterling.
