Jonathan Blum (writer)

Jonathan Blum is an American writer. He grew up in Miami, Florida,[1] and graduated from UCLA and the Iowa Writers' Workshop. He is the author of Last Word,[2][3] a novella, named one of 2013's "best books to give as gifts" by Iowa Public Radio.[4][5] He lives in Los Angeles.[1]

Blum has published short stories, essays, poems, and a novella, Last Word.[1] Last Word, brought out by independent publishing house Rescue Press,[6] won critical notice from such journals as The Iowa Review, Heavy Feather Review,[7] and Pank.[8] It was also reviewed in the Jewish Book Council book review [9] and by The Writing University[10]In November 2013, Last Word was an Editor's Pick at NewPages.Last Word was on the Small Press Distribution fiction best seller list for six months, November 2013 - April 2014. Blum has taught fiction writing at The University of Iowa and at Drew University.[3][11]

Awards[edit]

Blum has won the Michener-Copernicus Fellowship literary award,[5] the Playboy Magazine College Fiction Contest,[12] and a Helene Wurlitzer Foundation fellowship.[5]

The personal essay "May Be Habit Forming" was a Notable Essay in Best American Essays 2000, edited by Robert Atwan and Alan Lightman.
