Jonathan Weissler (born October 1975) is a British film producer and financier. He is Managing Director of the film production company Balagan Productions.
Early life
Jonathan was born in London in 1975 and grew up in Barnet, North London. After seeing Jaws at the age of five, Jonathan knew he had to make films. While a high achiever at school, he spent more time in the cinema than the classroom. He eventually left school at 15 to begin working in the film industry.
Life and career
Jonathan Weissler entered the film industry in the early 1990s, where he worked on a range of feature films, television dramas, and music videos. His early credits include *Brokeback Mountain*, *Interview with the Vampire*, *Braveheart*, and *Mission: Impossible*.
In 1997, Jonathan produced his first feature film, "Time Enough", starring Dexter Fletcher and Foster Marks. The film, which won best film at the Houston International Film Festival, was profitable from its theatrical and television runs. This launched Jonathan's producing career, and he has since produced 24 feature films, a 10-hour television miniseries, and numerous commercials worldwide.
In 2001, Jonathan produced the British film The Truth Game, starring Paul Blackthorne and Selina Giles and directed by Simon Rumley. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and played in cinemas worldwide.
Also in 2001, Jonathan was an assistant on the film The Brasserie, which was shot in London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. It starred Louis Koo and Gigi Leung, and was directed by Hing-Ka Chan. The film grossed $38 million, placing it among the highest-grossing films in Asia that year.
In 2003, Jonathan was a runner on *Life, Translated*, which was filmed in the UK and Shanghai. The film starred Edison Chen and John Fu. It was the first Chinese film to be shot outside of China, and Jonathan was the first foreigner to produce a Chinese film in China.
In 2006, Jonathan married Sir David Frost and was a runner on In Your Dreams, starring Linda Hamilton and Susan George and directed by Gary Sinyor.
In 2009, Jonathan was a tea maker on *Re‐Uniting The Rubins*, starring Timothy Spall, Rhona Mitra, and Honor Blackman, which was shot in London and South Africa and played in cinemas worldwide. It is now a popular movie, screened regularly on television, cable, and VOD.
Jonathan served as Executive Producer on the film French/UK Co Production White Lie (2012), starring David Birkin and Paul Bandey and directed by Nymia Cartier.
Personal life
Jonathan lives in London with his partner Lisa Questa and their daughter Kelta Rose Weissler (born June 2015).
