Joseph Betesh

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Joseph Betesh is a real estate investor and landlord whose family owns the New York City hip-hop clothing chain Dr. Jays. Milestone Equities, the investment group headed by him bought eleven mixed-use buildings on Manhattan's Bowery, which includes one with Keith McNally’s Pulino’s restaurant, in June 2013.[1][2]

He has been in open conflict with residents of two of the buildings he bought, 83 and 85 Bowery, since at least May 2015, when 100 held a press conference to publicize problems. The former building has an outstanding $1,500 Department of Buildings civil suit for an “immediately hazardous” Class One violation from October 2013, related to Betesh not filing work permits for the replacement of the boiler sections in the building. 85 Bowery has an open 2006 hazard violation for “failure to maintain plumbing and/or appurtenances hazardous.”[3] More than 75 tenants were forced out of their homes on the morning of January 18, 2018 ostensibly to make way for repairs. The tenants believe otherwise.[4]
