Early Life and Education
Born in Surulere, Lagos State, Joskid Chizcheese was raised in Ojo, Lagos State. His musical journey began in the children’s choir of his local Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he honed his vocal skills and developed a passion for performance. This early exposure to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and diverse musical landscape further inspired his artistic ambitions. He attended Floriejoe Private School for primary education and Moyi Comprehensive High School for secondary education. In 2022, he enrolled at the University of Delta, Agbor, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
Career
Joskid Chizcheese began his professional music career in 2020 with the release of his debut single, “Cruise”, featuring DjvanZ. The track gained significant local traction, establishing his presence in Nigeria’s music scene. It also achieved international recognition, peaking at No. 76 on the World genre chart and No. 15 on the Reggae sub-genre chart on ReverbNation in 2022. He followed this in 2021 with another collaborative single featuring DjvanZ, though audiences increasingly urged him to release solo work. On his 18th birthday in 2022, he unveiled “Enjoy”, a solo single celebrating gratitude and life’s simple pleasures, which later peaked in the Top 10 on ReverbNation in 2022. Later that year, he paused music temporarily to focus on university studies. However, within months of starting his degree, he returned with “Done & Dusted” (2022), again featuring DjvanZ. Despite speculation that the track marked his graduation, JKCC clarified it was a heartbreak anthem, released during his first academic year. In 2025, he continued to expand his reach with “Slow Whine”, which charted at No. 73 on the Apple Music Latin: Nigeria chart, further highlighting his growing presence across international audiences.
Musical Style and Influences
Joskid Chizcheese’s music is characterized by heartfelt lyrics, Afrocentric rhythms, and modern production. Drawing from personal experiences and Nigerian cultural roots, his work resonates with themes of emotional vulnerability and resilience. He cites Nigeria’s vibrant musical traditions and global contemporary trends as key influences, aiming to create a sound that bridges generational and cultural divides. His alias BadBoy Beat underscores his versatility as a producer, experimenting with genres ranging from Afrobeat to electronic fusion.
