Julia Cooke (born July 21, 1983) is an American essayist and non-fiction writer.[1] Her essays have been published in A Public Space, Salon, The Threepenny Review, Smithsonian (magazine), Tin House, and Virginia Quarterly Review, where she is a contributing editor. Her reporting has been published in Condé Nast Traveler, The New York Times, Playboy Magazine, The Village Voice, Saveur, and more.[1]
Her first book, The Other Side of Paradise: Life in the New Cuba, was published by Seal Press in 2014.[2] She first traveled to Cuba as a college student in 2003, then returned in 2008 and began writing the book about the post-Fidel society.[3]
