Irine Julia Majale who is known professionally as Julia Majale is a Kenyan journalist, editor and the managing director of Tuko.co.ke.[1] In 2021 she made the list of Top 25 Women in Digital at the SOMA Awards.[2] She is a board member of the Women Human Rights Defender's Hub powered by Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.[3]

Education

Julia holds a Bachelor's in Communication and Media Studies from Daystar University. She also graduated with Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation from the Aga Khan University.[4] She is a beneficiary of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers Women in News Leadership Accelerator Programme in 2021.[1]

Career

Early career

While at Daystar University, she was a correspondent of 98.4 Capital FM reporting stories from many campuses, but primarily from Daystar University to the Capital Campus website. She wrote news stories and was the official photographer for the University's newspaper called Involvement Newspaper. She also worked as a news anchor, reporter and producer at the University's radio station called Shine FM.

Standard Group PLC

She completed a five-month internship at Standard Group PLC in May 2013 and returned to the station a year later to take on the roles of Social Media Editor and Online Sub-Editor.[5]

Tuko.co.ke

In June 2016, Julia moved to Tuko.co.ke, a division of Pan-African Digital Media Company, Legit, to work as an online news editor. In May 2017, she received a promotion to Monitoring Editor. After three years, she was elevated to the position of Managing Editor, and then managing director in 2023.[5]
