Julianne Benzel is an American history teacher and university professor from Rocklin, California, who is running for California's 4th congressional district in 2020.[1]

Controversy[edit]

In March 2018, Rocklin High School allowed a national gun control walkout protest at 10 am, during the middle of a school day. Benzel, who believed the school should not be allowing protests during classroom instructional time, questioned if the school would allow other protests if they were conservative in nature, such as a Pro-Life Walkout. Benzel was placed on leave by the RUSD administration, which stated that Benzel was "placed on paid administrative leave due to several complaints from parents and students involving the teacher’s communications regarding today’s student-led civic engagement activities.” [2]

Notable work[edit]

Julianne Benzel has a 20-year teaching record at Rocklin High School, Sierra College and William Jessup University. Benzel first debuted onto the national spotlight in 2011 when she was acknowledged in Glenn Beck's #1 New York Times best-seller, The Original Argument [3]. Since then, Benzel has been interviewed by national media outlets such as Fox News (Fox and Friends [4], Tucker Carlson Tonight [5], and The Ingraham Angle [6]), CBS [7], the New York Post [8], the Washington Times [9], the Sacramento Bee [10], and many others.

Benzel is also the author of the memoir My Stand.[11]
