Ian Tonino (born November 28, 1986), better known as Junk, is a Canadian rapper from Vancouver, British Columbia.
Affiliations
Junk is one of the founders of the Vancouver based hip hop collective “Household”, and is half of the rap group Northwest Division (NWD). In 2016 he signed to Stealth Bomb Records (label founded by Snak The Ripper, co-founder of Stompdown Killaz).
Early years
Junk grew up in several cities between Italy and Germany, including Pordenone, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, and Langen, Frankfurt and Berlin, Germany. He attended several schools spanning both countries. In 1994, his mother and he moved to Grey Creek, British Columbia, Canada. There he attended Crawford Bay Elementary Secondary School and began to learn English, his third language. He began writing rhymes, recording himself on tape cassettes, and making beats on a keyboard. He was also sent to counselling and to take Ritalin for his ADHD, which he didn’t. Although self-medicating, substance abuse issues became the primary escape along with rap.
Career
Junk released his debut album *I Am No One* in 2016. His 2021 album *Lions Eat Goats* with Young Stitch charted at No.1 on iTunes Hip Hop & Rap Charts. In 2019 he was nominated for a Golden Owl Hospitality Award for Breakout Artist of the Year. He was nominated for Rap Artist Of The Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards in 2021. In 2016, Junk collaborated with Snak The Ripper and also Rittz of Strange Music. In 2018 he collaborated with Grammy award winner and Kanye West’s writer Cyhi The Prynce. He collaborated with Flipp Dinero, Sick Tamburo, Shotty Horroh, Mickey Factz, Wrekonize, Merkules, C-Lance, Known, Dj Burn One and Dj Eclipse.
