Justine Zwerling (born 13 March 1972 ) is a British-born Israeli entrepreneur. She is head of Primary Markets, Israel at the London Stock Exchange. She founded the Jewish Women's Business Network as part of the LSEG's Women's Inspired Network (WIN), within which she has launched partnerships “to promote gender diversity and women’s inclusion and empowerment throughout the world of finance[1]”. Zwerling was named number 5 on the ‘HERoes Top 100 Female Future Leaders’ list in 2020[1] and number 12 on ‘The Aliyah 100 List’ for her work at the LSEG and UK Israel Bilateral Trade Nexus.[2] She is also a founding member of the UAE-Israel Business Council and the Gulf-Israel UK Women's Business Forum alongside Fleur Hassan. Her career and volunteer work centre around entrepreneurship combined with advocacy for female empowerment.[3]

Biography[edit]

Justine Zwerling grew up in North London. Her father is a professor of economics and statistics and her mother was CO-CEO of a company that designed and built specialized microscopes.[4] She attended Bath Spa University from 1991 to 1994 where she completed an honours degree in English Literature and History. During a summer break she went to Israel for four months where she volunteered on Kibbutz Kfar HaHoresh, located near Nazareth.[4] After finishing her honours degree back in the UK, she returned to Israel to study a master's degree in Middle Eastern history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1995 to 1996. Zwerling made Aliyah in 1996. She worked at the BBC in Bristol during her studies and in retail.[4]Zwerling is married and has two daughters. Justine describes herself as a ‘PROUD MUM’[5] on social profiles and in personal branding.

Public relations and business career[edit]

Zwerling began her career working at Ruder Finn PR agency and then moved to G3 Associates in Jerusalem from 1999 to 2001, where she was involved in strategic business and marketing consulting for a number of startups. Following that she became the director of Former Soviet Union Missions at JDC (The Joint) from 2001 to 2002. She then worked as managing director at the Israel Cancer Research Fund, Jerusalem Branch, from 2004 to 2005.

For eight years (2004–2012) Zwerling worked at A4e, where she was the board director of AMIN and supported the company in its first international endeavour in Jerusalem, resulting in 7,000 people returning to work. She then went on to create and support entrances into Germany, France, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, China and India. During this role in international business development she worked directly with prime ministers, government and MP's offices to deliver social change in the workforce. From 2009 to 2017 Zwerling joined the board of directors Israel for Kinetis Ltd.

In January 2013 Zwerling began working for the British embassy, supporting trade and investment between the UK and Israel. From 2014 to 2016 she became the deputy director of Trade and Investment, where she was responsible for supporting hundreds of Israeli firms in both launching and expanding their operations in the UK. She worked on many high-profile trade visits to Israel, such as Prime Minister David Cameron and then the mayor of London Boris Johnson,[6] Sir Edward Julian Udny-Lister and Joanna Shields, Baroness Shields, OBE.

In April 2016 Zwerling became the Global Growth consultant for Intergalactic connector. In December 2017 she became a board member for Curvalux, “manufacturer of new generation wireless broadband solutions”[7] within the Airspace Internet Exchange Inc. In May 2020, “Curvalux and Sheffield City Region Mayoral Combined Authority (“SCR”) announced a joint investment” to open a telecommunications R&D Centre and production facility.[8] “SCR is supporting the company’s investment with an initial R&D grant of 8 million pounds”.[9]

Since April 2016 Zwerling has worked as the head of Primary Markets, Israel at the London Stock Exchange, where she supports companies to IPO and Israeli Sovereign Bonds of Israel.[10]

Zwerling is noted for founding and launching the Jewish Women's Business Network in January 2019[11] as part of the LSEG's Women's Inspired Network. The JWBN has connected “over 400 women globally from the UK, Israel, Gibraltar, Europe, USA and South Africa”[5] and “contributed to developing job prospects, mentoring opportunities, business connections, communities and philanthropic efforts for its members”.[12]

In July 2020 Zwerling became one of the founding members of the UAE-Israel Business Council,[1] which was established to bridge and foster friendships and commercial relations between the UAE and Israel.[13] The council has amassed over 2000 members since the normalisation of relations between Israel and the UAE in August 2020.[14] Zwerling also launched the Gulf-Israel Women's Forum, alongside co-founder and deputy mayor of Jerusalem, Fleur Hassan, with the goal to unite women from the middle east in sisterhood, culture, friendship and business.[15] On October 9, 2020, the group of Emirati and Israeli women met for the first time in Dubai.[16]

Volunteer work[edit]

Zwerling currently volunteers for a number of organisations. Since January 2014 Zwerling has been on the board of directors for Vibe Israel,[5] a non-for-profit organisation that aims to transform global perceptions of Israel and “strengthen the connection between the Jewish Diaspora and Israel”[17] through country branding.

Since November 2015 she volunteers and is a mentor for parents of autistic children.[5] In September 2017 she became an Advisory Council Member of Israel Bonds and the Women's Division.[1]

In January 2019 Zwerling became a member of the board of advisors for Supporting Risk at Youth (SAHI),[1] an organisation that works to support neglected youth through building communities.  

Zwerling also advises SafeUP,[1] a community-based app “helping women in distress globally 24/7 with safe guardians for virtual support and physical help”.

She volunteers for ‘The Forum of Jewish Leadership’ which is an international program that supports University students to get placed on summer internship[5] s.

Zwerling also works with authors Clare Josa and Joy Burnford to “combat imposter syndrome and raise confidence” of women in the workplace.[1]

Awards and achievements[edit]

In September 2020 Zwerling was named number 5 on the ‘HERoes Top 100 Female Future Leaders’ list, which “celebrates 100 inspirational women who are making a significant contribution to gender diversity at work”.[1]

In 2019 she was on the HERoes “50 Women Future Leaders” list supported by Yahoo Finance.[5]

In February 2018 Zwerling accepted the award on behalf of the London Stock Exchange for ‘British Company of the Year’ at the British Israeli Business Awards.[18]

In November 2017 she was number 12 on ‘The Aliyah 100 List’, which celebrates “one hundred Jews who moved from Britain to help shape the modern state of Israel”.[2] In this listing she was acknowledged for work at the London Stock Exchange Group and the UK Israel Bilateral Trade Nexus.[2]

Zwerling received the ‘Record Breaking Award’ for Foreign Investment from Israel to the UK 2014–2015.

In 2006 she was awarded ‘Outstanding Investor’ at the Israel British Chamber of commerce awards.
