K.A. Gilliland
K. A. Gilliland is a Cherokee Nation citizen and the current executive director of the Cherokee Nation Foundation.[1] She has an undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology from the University of California and an Art degree from the Art Institute of Pennsylvania. She is involved in the teaching and preservation of the Cherokee language.[2]
Language projects[edit]
Gilliland was the producer of the short film, Stories of the Cherokees. The 15 minute industrial video was the first Cherokee language film to premier at the Short Cannes Film Festival.[3][4]
In 2011 Gilliland was the executive producer for the Cherokee Songbird project. The project rerecorded seven traditional Cherokee lullabies. The songs were accompanied by seven traditional stories in the Cherokee language. 2000 CDs were given to local hospitals and language schools.[5]
