K. V. Pendharkar College of Arts, Science and Commerce[2] is an educational institution located in Dombivli, Maharashtra, India. It is affiliated with the University of Mumbai and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in arts, commerce, and science. The college is managed by the Sonopant Dandekar Shikshan mandal.[3][4]

History

The foundation stone of the college was laid in 1974 by notable personalities including Padma Shri G. D. Madgulkar, poet and lyricist popularly known as the "Adhunik Valmiki" for his composition Geet Ramayan, and Ajit Wadekar, the then captain of the Indian cricket team.

The institution received significant support from industrialist Gajananrao Pendharkar, chairman of Vicco Laboratories, who made a founding donation. In recognition of his contribution, the college was named after his father, Keshav Vishnu Pendharkar.

The land for the institution was allotted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in 1972. However, due to jurisdictional changes placing Dombivli under the University of Pune in 1977–78, the establishment of the college was delayed. In the interim, the Mandal opened the Sister Nivedita School in rental premises in Dombivli East and West.

Initially, the college began operations at Bajiprabhu Chowk, Dombivli East, before moving to a temporary tin-shade structure at Plot No. S. P. 4 in MIDC, Dombivli East.

K. V. Pendharkar College formally began functioning in June 1979 and received permanent affiliation from the University of Mumbai on 30 August 1980.

Academics

The college offers programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels across the disciplines of arts, commerce, and science. Courses and syllabi are governed by the University of Mumbai, the Government of Maharashtra, and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Accreditation

The institution has been assessed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in multiple cycles. In the third cycle (2016–17), the college was reaccredited with an ‘A’ Grade and a CGPA of 3.14, and it is recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act.[5][6]
