He was born at Matthil desam, Peringome Gram panchayat in Kannur district. Balamani is his wife. Dharsan is his son.[5]

Film career[edit]

Narayanan started his film career by assisting N.P. Suresh, earlier film editor at Vijaya Vauhini Studios at Chennai.[6]He left for Chennai to learn movie editing soon after he finished the tenth grade. His brother, production controller ‘Seven Arts’ Mohan, helped Narayanan found a job as an assistant editor in Vijaya Vauhini Studios. At the time of Narayanan’s highly film career, his son, Dharson was diagnosed with the rare disease that affected cell growth. In 2001, Narayanan left Chennai to his native place Payyanur and he took a long break from cinema Dharsan's treatments. He bought an auto rickshaw to accompany his son on his daily trips to school and frequent visits to the hospital and spent his working hours riding the auto rickshaw and doing odd editing jobs in studios in Payyanur.[1]

He returned momentarily to the cinema in 2008 when his friend Babu Tiruvalla, the producer of Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam, asked him to edit Thaniye. After he edited also Achanum Ammayum Chirikkumbol in 2009 Athijeevanam in 2016,[7][8][9][10] and a Tamil movie Mizhikal.[4]
