Mohamed Medhat Saleh (born June 21, 2004), better known as KOME (stylized in all caps), is an American rapper from Harlingen, Texas. KOME started making music in 2016 online, but it wasn't until late 2022 that he started performing and making noise in his hometown. That’s when his music started to take off.
Music
KOME’s style is hard to describe because he is all over the place. But he seems to revolve around simplistic beats with a complex rapping style, usually doing multi-syllable rhymes. One thing he loves to do is use homophones in his tracks. KOME’s style draws inspiration from MF Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, and JPEGMAFIA.
KOME’s music is known for its poetic writing style, complex rhyme schemes, homophones, and a laid-back delivery. His beat selection leans towards jazz-sample heavy, stripped instrumentals, but usually focuses on woodwinds/brass with trap drums layered on top. What makes KOME stand out is that you can’t really expect what samples he is going to use.
Personal life
Very little is known about KOME’s life, but he states that growing up in Egypt helped shape him and his persona. In an interview [1] KOME talks about his experience in Egypt and how Egyptian parties and weddings shaped the way he views his music and his life.
However, through some digging on his Twitter/X page [2], he talks about how in high school he was part of Technology Student Association, which is a global competition with different branches. KOME entered and competed in a music production competition and not only succeeded in his regionals but also made it to state. Not much is known as to why he didn't continue.
Discography
KOME only has 1 project out to the public, but he is notorious for deleting a majority of his stuff, so who knows, maybe there are multiple projects out there we don’t know about.
