KUD Apokalipsa (Cultural Artistic Association Apocylpse) (founded in 1993) is a Slovenian publishing house.[1][2] In 1994 the magazine Apokalipsa (a monthly magazine since 2002) began publishing and in 1995 a book program. Its founder and editor-in-chief is the philosopher and poet Primož Repar.[3][4][5] At the forefront is the association of living culture, as it is an informal group of collaborators - poets, philosophers, essayists, scientists, writers, artists, painters and others.

Collections[edit]

The publishing house has rich and diverse collections, Apocalypse, Aurora, Aut, Fractal,[6] Haiku, Haiku Comic, Comic, Streams, Special Editions.

The Apocalypse collection seeks to bring the reader closer to literature that is not part of the prevailing poetics.[7][8] Other book collections also enable space for difference, exchange, communication, international exchanges, and multilingual editions (for instance, anthologies of Slovenian haiku poetry Pond of Silence in 12 languages, Peach buds in 6 languages or an anthology of Visegrad haiku Scattered Strawberries in 5 languages). The AUT collection includes numerous works by Paul Ricoeur[9] and Soeren Kierkegaard, as well as[10] Jacques Derrida,[11] Hannah Arendt[12] and Béla Hamvas.

Among the books published are four Nobel laureates, Olga Thokarchuk, Herta Mueller, Wislava Shimborska, Doris Lessing; the best poetry collections in Slovenia (for example Barbara Korun - Veronika's award, etc.); philosophical authors such as e.g. Tomas Halik, J.L. Marion, then Miklavž Ocepek, Dejan Aubreht, Goran Starčević and others.

Since 2016, the collection also has a monographic sub-collection, which the publishing house publishes together with the University of Toronto (Kierkegaard Circle, Trinity College) and the Central European Research Institute Soeren Kierkegaard in Ljubljana (CERI-SK).

The members of the editorial board are: Primož Repar, Jurij Hudolin, Alenka Koželj, Andrej Božič, Samo Krušič, Stanislava Chrobáková Repar, Katarina Majerhold, Janko Rožič, Bojan Velikonja, Martina Soldo, Zoran Triglav, Matjaž Bertoncelj, Jan Cvitković, Gašper Pirc.

Participation in Projects[edit]

Since 2002, the Apocalypse publishing house has been part of the Revija v reviji (Review within Review) project, founded by Primož Repar and Stanislava Chrobáková Repar.[13] It is a project that represents the networking of European literary and literary-humanistic magazines, and the festival Review within Review is an international meeting of publishers, editors and authors of this project.[14] In 2007, the philosophical activity was upgraded with the Miklavž Ocepek International Philosophical Symposium, which has been held biennially since then,[15] and since 2013 also the annual international conferences and philosophical workshops "Kierkegaard" (together with CERI-SK[16]) in cooperation with Cankarjev dom[17] and Unesco - Ljubljana.

Organization of the International Competition[edit]

Between 1998 and 2019, the magazine of the publishing house awarded prizes for the best haiku of its international competition, which was attended by people from all over the world.[18] For several years, it also held a haiku comic competition, which is the original idea of the KUD Apokalipsa.
