Lathi's royal poet Kalpi.

Kalpi Tirtha or Kalpi Tirtha museum[1] is a museum of objects related to the life of Kalpi, in memory of Gujarati poet Kalapi. It is located at Lathi, on the birthplace of Kalpi, in Amreli district of Gujarat. There is a huge collection of articles written by the poet himself, letters, the rare items they used, and the history of the monarchy. The memorials were also associated with the Kalpi Tirtha, where Kalapi lived, the palace, which was situated on the banks of the lake. This place is a center of attraction for Gujarat's literary figures.[2]

History and introduction

Kalpi Tirtha

The history of this place is associated with the period from the birth of Kalapi to his death. Before the establishment of Gujarat, there was a Lathi kingdom. After the merger of the states, the maintenance of the royal palaces, the library and other memorabilia of art was not adequate. There was nothing done for that, despite many attempts, discussions, and suggestions. During 2003-2005, the then collector and literature officer of Amreli district, Pravinbhai K. Gadhvi (IAS) took the initiative to prepare a project for the memorial of Kalapi. The poet and practitioner of Amreli, Harshadbhai Chandana, is also considered to be the foundation stone.

To fulfill this project, businessman Manjibhai R. Dholakia, with the help of other leaders Ravjibhai Pangar, Anantra Bhayani, Dhirubhai Patel, the successor of Kalpak Thakor Kirtikumar Singh (presently Rajkot) and Mahendrasinghji Gohil (presently Amreli) etc., formed 'Kalpy Kalpi Tirth Trust'. Ghanshyamsingh Rana served as its president. He collected funds and established the Kalpi Tirtha museum to maintain the heritage of literature, art and culture, with a memorial to Kalapi.

The Kalpi Tirtha museum displays, on the ground floor, the poet’s belongings, historical artifacts from Lathi, and items from the present staff. There is a small museum containing Kalapi’s artworks, photos, letters in his handwriting, poetry, manuscripts, artistic books, audio cassettes, and CDs. All the memorabilia received, as well as the artwork, has been introduced. A small auditorium is also built on the upper floors of Kalpitirth Bhawan. Apart from Wednesdays, this museum gives free entry in the mornings and evenings. Videography and photography are permitted. The museum was inaugurated in 2005.[3]
